| The JHMS Media Center underwent an “artistic remodel” during the summer of 2012. Inspired by young adult author Richard Peck’s poem “I Read”, a committee of parents, artists, and teachers evaluated several artist proposals incorporating the poem with original art work on the walls of the Media Center. Local artist Shannon Troxler’s design was selected. She created three beautiful gold-leaf panel discs depicting mythical creatures. Additionally, she created several gold-leaf globes which are mounted on the upper walls and center ceiling of the library. In the fall, part two of the makeover was installed with the addition of “book birds”. Sponsored by pARTners, local artist Melissa Malm worked with students from Mrs. Hart’s art class to create flying bird shapes from discarded books. These fanciful creations now “fly” through the center ceiling in-between the suspended gold-leaf globes. | This project was sponsored in part by the Wyoming Arts Council. Color consultation was made possible by Trauner Design. Sign Design crafted and installed the words of the poem on the upper walls. Poem from: Richard Peck. Anonymously Yours.
